Stop Giving Handouts- Kickstart Instead

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Investments|Up for Discussion

The next time you see a uniformed student walking around with a tin can, don’t feel guilty for avoiding them. Give where it matters. Earlier we had talked about Kiva, today we’d like to help promote KickStart, a non-profit that develops and markets new technologies in Africa at low costs so that local entrepreneurs can establish highly profitable new small businesses.

From micro-irrigation to sanitation, building, transport and cooking technologies, KickStart has ended the cycle of poverty for thousands of families. It has also:
* Started 61,000 new businesses (800 new businesses per month)
* Generated $66 million a year in new profits and wages (by the new businesses)
* Gained new revenues equivalent to 0.6% of Kenya’s GDP and 0.25% of Tanzania’s GDP
