Removing Advertlets Ads

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Business in Singapore

This is my third time posting about this problem, a problem that Advertlets refuses to acknowledge. Something is wrong with their coding, with their server set-up, something is direly and technically wrong. Advertlets is almost always slow and slows down the loading of the entire page. Today, Advertlets caused my websites to not load altogether. When I removed the script, wala, everything is as smooth as silk.

I really don’t want to give up on Advertlets as I think Asia needs its own advertising/media companies. But until this technical problem is acknowledged and then actually resolved, there’s no reason why I should put the ads back up.

Hi, we’ve noted your comments, and we have responded on this before. As our network continues to grow, we will have to optimize and upgrade further. More than 5 major upgrades have been made in the past, and we are scheduling another upgrade in 3 days. Currently our 3 dedicated servers are almost running at full capacity, as we are facing particularly high server load today due to increased traffic. Things should improve shortly, and you should not be facing this problem in future.

Give them some time, hope that they can catch up fast enough as the business expands.

Happy New Year!

I know you’ve responded on this before, but its always the same line and it doesn’t ring true at all.

It really doesn’t make sense right- that you wouldn’t just put up more servers. After all, how much does a server cost? $3K at the most? If that’s the culprit and you have constant problems with spikes in traffic, it makes absolutely no business sense not to put up more servers when they cost so little. That’s my beef- that there’s SOMETHING ELSE wrong and Advertlets is not understanding what it really is and that’s why this keeps happening. It’s in the code and system set-up, nothing to do with the number of servers. You should stop denying it or insisting its sudden increase in traffic.

But like PADDY said, let’s look forward to a better year in 2008!

Hi, if you read the recent Advertlets blog posting, you’ll see how much the increase in traffic has been. The end speed that a user will experience is most dependent on the number of maximum connections possible at any given time – fixing it is a matter of tweaking servers, software, bandwidth and more. As you might expect, this is tricky, and upgrading only one of them doesn’t usually result in an improved state. Nevertheless, we are aware of the problem, and are working to resolve it. Hope that you will experience faster loading in future!
