A Small step for Singapore Post, a Big step for Singaporeans

Singapore probably has one of the most advanced post office systems in the world today. It’s efficiency is unparalleled. After all, how many post offices can claim “next day delivery” as a default. Granted, this is possible because of Singapore’s small size, but the post office actually promises delivery the following day!

It also has additional services such as paying your phone bills, remitting money (for Indonesians and Filipinos especially), and even telegraphic transfers! What’s more, they even have a logistics arm for warehousing and inventory management where you can not only store your stuff with them but they do physical inventory checks and monthly and annual inventory reports!

Amazing right? These services are great business levellers! Small entrepreneurs can operate like the big guys without having to invest so much money.

SO WHAT’S TO IMPROVE?
What I don’t understand is why the Singapore Post Office doesn’t have a service that collects outgoing mail while dropping off residents’ mail? It’s a really simple thing that can help save many from having to take a trip to the post office or having to locate a mail box. It will also save money for Singapore Post by not having to maintain so many boxes in the streets for people to drop their mail for pick-up.

about the improvement idea u’ve mentioned – i guessed then we’d need a solution for those who aren’t receiving any mails or frequent mails, they’d have problems posting out their mails on time…

For those in landed property, you’re right. But for the majority of Singaporeans in HDB or condos, the outgoing box should be right next to the post boxes, doncha think?

I think Singaporeans really take Singapore Post for granted… Here in London, we have to contend with strikes by Royal Mail’s staff. If your mail happened to be under process during that time, there’s a good chance that it’ll be lost. :0

I think it’s already the best compared to other countries. They don’t provide that service cause got not enough man power? It all comes to money…

There’s always room for improvement. :)

You’re lucky you have such a great postal system. I don’t rely on our local postal system because they have more misses than hits. :P

@CK
London has a lot of stuff that needs serious help. I had the worst nightmares opening a bank account there! However, there is something to be said about mail going missing for businesses. You can’t have the excuse in Singapore, “the cheque is in the mail”. heh heh

@Haney
Actually, that’s the whole point, it will save them money not to have collection boxes elsewhere and just have them in the HDB’s and Condos where they can DROP OFF AND COLLECT at the same time.

@Joey
We are very thankful for the postal system :)

Singapore is very efficient! You’re right, it has got something to do with the size of the country. But it’s great to have these kinds of service. Very enterprising too, specially with remittances and stock inventory …

cheers!

My experience with London post has been wonderful though…. the mailman was at our doorstep at 7am to deliver a parcel. My friend’s was pleasantly surprised at how early it was and the mailman said “Well, if I’m any later you would have gone out for work isn’t it?” And it helps that the parcel is Records from amazon. :)

Hi, i think Singapore Post is doing a great job. With the introduction of vPOST we can only do spreeing and consolidate packages to buy from overseas site. This results is getting the cheapest goods from around the world with minimal shipping cost which has always been the limiting factor in overseas purchases.
