Stop Whining about your Web Hosting Company
Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Ideas
We don’t have such problems ourselves but we know a lot of our readers have issues with their web hosting companies. How do we know? So many of them whine to us about it … and then get this, stick with their web hosting company anyway.
The main excuse given for not doing anything about their predicament is aside from not understanding a lot of what is being offered, what is and is not included, customer service is nowhere to be found and they don’t know how to stop the service. That’s just crazy! One of our readers even went as far as to say that when it comes to downtime, the response of the web hosting company has been to deny that it has occurred and she can’t prove that it did occur so she has stopped complaining.
The notorious bad customer service has also been a nightmare for many who are updating their WordPress blogs to the latest one and finding out suddenly that something strange has happened to their blogs after the upgrade.
Apparently its not that they did anything wrong, but that the host needs to update something on the server side as well and only they can do it. Sometimes its due to something that another party has done and has affected your blog because you’re sharing servers. Unfortunately, often times, since many hosting companies are short-staffed, they simply blame the customer for messing something up instead of trying to find the root of the problem, which we admit can be an incredible head-ache, but at the same time, your customers are going to be very very loyal, possibly for life, so why not make the extra effort?
For those who are currently stuck with bad service, you should check out the web hosting content aggregators who do a compare and contrast for you. Some even provide information like cPanel Tutorials which, trust me, are really helpful given the plethora of widgets available to the every day man.
There are also sites like webhostrating.com which provide comprehensive information on what makes a reliable web hosting company, what security issues to watch out for, pros/cons of different ecommerce software, and what are the dis/advantages between using MS-SQL, MySQL, etc for your database.
Whatever it is you’re facing right now, remember you don’t have to just keep taking it. Arm yourself with some information which is readily available and stop whining and start doing something about it.
