Wikinomics & Gogme.biz
Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Business in Singapore|Web 2.0
Tapscott and Williams wrote the book WIKINOMICS way back (considering internet time) in 2006. There they posited that mass collaboration on a world scale will fundamentally change the way businesses will be conducted in the near future. In fact, they clearly establish how companies big and small have already taken advantage of the internet’s ability to harness intellectual, social, and financial capacity on a mass scale at near-free costs.
Fast forward to August 2008 and what they talk about has played out in manifold ways. More and more people, truly understanding what Web 2.0 offers, have started very successful companies providing platforms for mass collaboration. Suddenly, the small guy can offer as much as the big guy, with very little difference in quality. At the same time, the big guys are finding out that very small niche players have a lot to offer to them such as the case with Goldcorp Inc, a mining company that was able to identify 50% more targets (which yielded substantial quantities of gold) than their experts were able to pinpoint by opening up the “hunt” to everyone and anyone interested in looking at the data.
ENTER GOGME.BIZ
In the same spirit of mass collaboration, Gogme.biz, a new business based in Singapore, wants to harness the minds, resources and pockets of individuals world-wide to kick-off three (3) businesses. They expect to whittle this down from an initial pool of 50 business ideas, and via votes from its membership, get it down to 10 (idea generators get US$1,000) and then the final 3 business plans will actually be implemented.
