Check this web hosting site before you commit

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Strategies & Tips

As is inevitable when most people know you via the blogosphere, the subject of web hosting always comes up for newbies. They always have 100 questions and finally want you to make the decision for them (and then blame you afterwards as well if things don’t work out).

To be honest, it’s not only tough, it’s getting mighty tedious to always be giving a rundown on who’s bad, who’s good, and what you should look out for. There are many sites, and this is one of them that is quite good, that has independent customer web hosting rating of the Top 10 companies.

The rating system is based on:
a) customer satisfaction,
b) affordability,
c) reliability,
d) uptime, and
e) technical support.

They also segment the “Top 10″ according to use/need so the site is quite useful not just for the newbie. For example, the have: Best Budget Hosting, Best Blog Hosting, Best Forum Hosting, Best Unix Hosting, Best Windows Hosting, Best PHP Hosting, etc.

There are also articles to help explain technical jargon and fairly new computer languages or technology. For instance, I’ve always been baffled by ruby on rails even though it is hailed as really easy to learn framework of web applications. They do a pretty decent job of explaining it.

So please, please, I know I’ve said this before but people who want to get into the web and don’t want to learn the basics themselves is too much. There is so much information, take the time, just read up and if you still really don’t understand, ask.

Nice hosting review, small list but helpful for beginners. I have had great luck with hostgator for the last year or so, they’ve also got an awesome referral program.
