Which Industries will Recover First?

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Strategies & Tips

The chart below by McKinsey shows which industries picked up first in past recessions. According to the McKinsey article) it also shows that what we are going through now, although claimed to be “unprecedented” by the media, is actually very similar to previous recessions.

The more important thing for the entrepreneur though is- are you poised for take off by the end of the year and what should you do in light of these patterns? Do the patterns even mean anything (keeping in mind the black swan theory: why forecasters are con-artists)? cf_march2009550

I’m not to sure how much the industry really matters. If you are starting a business and are lean and mean I think you will see great success as things turn around overall. Sure some industries will take the lead and move faster but everything will turn for the better overall.

I agree that it’s best to jump in when everyone else is running scared but your timing may be a little different depending on the industry you’re in. For example, the mining sector has seen over investment for over 2 years now and will probably be the last to recover.
