Helping the Small Entrepreneurs of the World

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Challenges / Awards

Muhuammad Yunus’ micro-financing has really lit a fire. We’re glad because we’ve been a long time admirer of this great man who saw what a mere US$27 could do to change the life of a person- not by giving it to her, but by loaning it to her for a business.

Recently, we came across the online version of what Yunus has done, allowing those of us who want to help but don’t know how to, the means in which to do so. We are always asked to donate in the streets of Singapore – I’ve never believed in it. Social Entrepreneurship is the way to go.

KIVA
Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
