Going Green with Envizyme

Posted by: Singapore Entrepreneur In: Business in Singapore|Interviews with Entrepreneurs

Did you know that Singaporeans throw away 566 tonnes of wet rubbish every year? That’s right, that’s a heck of a lot of rubbish. And what’s worse is that we’re completely unaware of the amount of garbage we generate. Out of sight, out of mind.

Singaporean Derrick Tan of Envizyme, is slowly but surely changing our indifference by taking our fruit rubbish and making it into something useful both in and out of the home. Inside these blue containers at his plant office in Woodlands sits garbage that would have needlessly gone into landfills. Now, they can continue their cycle of life in replenishing the earth as well as keeping us from introducing more toxins into our environment. “How,” you ask?

Very simply, Envizyme takes fruit garbage (either peels or rotting fruits that were not sold) and places them into a solution of water and brown sugar to induce the enzymes in the fruits to multiply in the water. It is a technology developed by a pioneering farmer in Thailand’s organic movement, Dr. Rosukon Poompanvong which Envizyme has taken further.

Research & Development Phase

These fruit enzymes are biodegradable proteins that can break down oils just like your detergents- which in fact use enzymes, but synthetic ones. Enzymes are even used in contact lens cleaners to eliminate infection-causing proteins. The best part is using fruit enzymes as cleaning agents & fertilizers, produces no toxic waste, no non-biodegradable pollution. It is entirely free from Phenol, free of phosphates, and 100% safe for our water systems!

You can actually make these detergents with your own fruit peels at home, and Derek encourages people to do so. But if you want a particular scent, or can’t wait 3-5 months to get your solution, or don’t want to deal with having to get the right ratios or dilutions, then the best way to clean and be green at the same time is to get a hole of Envizyme’s detergents which will be widely available soon.

Watch out for the Envizyme label the next time you go shopping for household cleaning detergents- from windows, to toilets!

Fantastic effort! My wife once mentioned to me that the quality of your household cleaning detergents may have an effect on your children. Children exposed to normal off the shelf cleaning products have been empirically proven to be more prone to asthma attacks.

Have to check this guy’s stuff out.

@3PL
I certainly hope more and more people will take advantage of nature’s cleaning agents – we’ve successfully made our own and while the scent is not what we wanted (too much pineapple), the enzymes definitely leave things very clean. It’s very effective.

@Ritzybitz
Its a serious problem in developed cities that children are getting more and more allergies. Didn’t know about the asthma’s- but definitely better safe than sorry.

Thanks Jia ren for letting us know you like our blog.
